Man accused of being $1 million behind on child support

While many parents may not enjoy paying child support, it can be helpful to keep each situation in perspective: Parents in Connecticut are likely not $1 million behind in child support payments. A 50-year-old man is the father of three children born during two earlier marriages, and according to federal authorities, is also listed on their records as the most wanted financially delinquent dad. They claimed that he owes over $1 million in back child support and has failed to make any payments for over 10 years.

This father was arrested when he stepped off a plane in the United States after living overseas. His return to this country was not voluntary, as he was deported from the Philippines. Prosecutors suspect that he may have been residing in Thailand for at least part of the last decade. He was recently caught in the Philippines after being sought for a long time during which his whereabouts were unknown.

His attorney stated that he was eager to resolve the issues raised in the case, but did not furnish any explanation for the father's failure to make support payments over the years, or what he had been doing while out of the country.

Child support payments are essential for ensuring that children are adequately cared for and can be educated. While the love and support a child can get from a parent who is involved in their life is also extremely important, not receiving child support can be detrimental to a child's prospects in life. In most cases in which a parent fails to pay court-ordered child support, a family law attorney can be extremely helpful in taking action to enforce the court's order and collect the money before the situation gets unmanageable.
